How to use someone else’s domain with their permission
-
My friend owns stonewoodneighbors.com, but doesn’t have time to maintain it, and doesn’t want people dependent on his personal server in case the server breaks. With his permission, I have expanded and reorganized his content in a free wordpress website, and want to use his existing domain when I purchase an annual wordpress plan. What process should I go through in order to use his paid-for domain with my wordpress site, when purchasing the basic $4/mo plan? Thanks!

Hi there!
There are two options for using an already registered domain.
You can either map it – your domain will stay with the current registrar, and you’ll need to go to their site to manage anything domain-related.
Or you can transfer the domain to WordPress.com, and we’ll be your new registrar. This way, you’ll manage everything from one place, and you’ll be able to reach support with any domain related-issues :)
Here you can find more information: https://wordpress.com/support/domain-mapping-vs-domain-transfer/.
Both domain mapping and transfer are free on any paid plan (annual billing only).
