    Hi,

I accidentally cancelled my domain name! How do I get it back?
I purchased the domain through wordpress.

Please let me know what can be done to get my domain name back.

    Thank you,
    Peter

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • It looks like you’ve canceled the domain name, meaning you no longer own it.

Please let us know which of these options works best for you:

Wait: You can wait about five days from cancellation for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you can purchase it again with another provider.

Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice and restore the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.

Repurchase a Plan: To host your site here after all, buy a plan, skip the domain option, then update us here.

    Hi Macmanx,

I would like to keep my free wordpress site but purchase the domain again (peteslostandfound.com) using WordPress’s domain purchase option ($18 a year).

Please let me know how I can do that.

    Thank you,
    Peter

  • I have sent a payment request for the total of $18 to the email address on your account.

Once the payment is sent, please reply here to let us know, and we will recover peteslostandfound.com.

    Macmanx,

After paying the $18 charge will my wordpress site use that domain for a full year starting from today? Are there additional fees that I will have to pay?

    Thanks,
    Peter

  • There are no additional fees to just recover the domain, but you will need a paid plan (any paid plan) to set it as the primary address: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#set-a-primary-address

If you’d like to purchase a paid plan instead of paying the $18, please do so at https://wordpress.com/plans and skip the free domain.

Then, let us know here and we’ll recover the domain as the plan’s free domain.

    Macmanx,

Are you saying that if I purchase a paid plan right now, it will include the domain (peteslostandfound.com)? I thought that was only for the first year…

My wordpress site was previously on the premium account and I cancelled the renewal.

    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Ah, yes, sorry about that.

So, you would need to pay the $18 to recover the domain, and if you want it to be the site’s primary address, you will need a paid plan for that.

    Macmanx,

If that is the case then sign me up for the WordPress personal plan with the domain peteslostandfound.com as the primary address for the site and let me know where I need to go to pay for it.

    Thank you,
    Peter

  • Please do purchase the plan at https://wordpress.com/plans and skip the free domain.

Then, let us know here and we’ll recover the domain as the plan’s free domain.

  • Sorry, also you will need to pay the $18 invoice that was emailed to recover the canceled and refunded domain.

    Happy New Year Macmanx!

In which order to do I need to do these actions:

*** pay the $18 invoice to recover the cancelled domain
*** purchase the plan at https://wordpress.com/plans

    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Hello Peter,

It would be good to do this in this order:

    1. pay the $18 invoice to recover the cancelled domain
    2. purchase the plan at https://wordpress.com/plans

Mainly to secure the domain which is the most important thing.

As a domain comes free for first year of it’s registration, we can look to offset this to any future purchases.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Hi aleone89,

I have paid the $18 invoice to recover the cancelled domain.

What do you mean by this?

“As a domain comes free for first year of it’s registration, we can look to offset this to any future purchases.”

Are you able to provide a promo code or discount for the wordpress plan? Please let me know, thanks!

    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Hello Peter,

Ah that’s great! I see the domain is restored. This should appear under Upgrades > Domains.

“As a domain comes free for first year of it’s registration, we can look to offset this to any future purchases.”
Are you able to provide a promo code or discount for the wordpress plan? Please let me know, thanks!

That’s correct, the plan will be minus the cost of the domain ($18).

When re-purchasing the plan, you should see the cost -$18 applied.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi aleone89,

I purchased the premium plan but peteslostandfound.com is still redirecting to peteslostandfound.wordpress.com.

I am not able to change the primary site address.

When I navigate to ‘Upgrades->Domains’, I see this below:

Your free WordPress.com address is peteslostandfound.wordpress.com

If I click ‘Change Site Address’, it only shows ‘wordpress.com’ domains.

If I then click ‘Did you want to add a custom Domain instead?’, then it takes me to a ‘Search for a Domain’ screen. If I search for my domain (peteslostandfound.com) it then says ‘This domain is already mapped to a WordPress.com site.’

It looks like your team is going to have to manually change this for me so that peteslostandfound.com will be my primary site address.

Please let me know if you need any additional information from me.

    Thanks,
    Peter
