I already have a domain with godaddy
-
Hi,
I want to build a site on wordpress and already have a registered domain with godaddy. Is it more cost effective to transfer to wordpress for hosting or leave with godaddy? -
Hi there,
So, if you have domain you want to use at WordPress.com that you have hosted elsewhere, you have the option to map or transfer that domain – and the cost difference really depends on how much you’re paying for domain hosting elsewhere. You need a paid plan to host a domain with WordPress.com, but the domain subscription is included in the price of the plan for the first year. Afterwards, it’s the price of the plan plus the price of the domain subscription.
If you keep with transfer the domain, you’ll pay for the mapping and the plan here ( again, the domain is included within the plan price for the first year).

But, if you keep the domain at your current host and map the domain to WordPress.com, you current host will continue to manage the domain and you’ll need to pay them for hosting your domain.
