    Hi filmcoop,

I already have WP3.0 installed on my host server.

There are two types of WordPress:

    1. WordPress.com: sites are created and hosted on WordPress.com (like alisonrichards.wordpress.com).
    2. WordPress.org: sites are created using WordPress.org software and hosted by a third party provider.

This is some more information about the differences between the two here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

earthonemedia.com and earth1media.com are not activate sites — they both have a holding page at the moment. alisonrichards.com is active but not powered by WordPress. Do you want to use WordPress.org for each of these sites and host them with your current provider, Website Source?

Yes, I want to convert alisonrichards.com to a WP theme and also activate both the EarthOneMedia (earth1media) sites on WP as well.

I have them hosted on websitesource but need a way to edit, post and update. (I no longer have access to dreamweaver or other program) thought WPress would be easiest solution.

Thanks for distinguishing the difference. I have blogs on WordPress but have never actually used it for my websites so when I signed into my account, I couldn’t figure out how to access or add them.

thanks very much for your help Gemma!

  • Hi there,

It’s not possible to have a blog “on WordPress”, as WordPress is not a hosting provider. It’s the name of a piece of software. Do you mean on WordPress.com, as in in your account with us?

As Gemma indicated above, the sites you mentioned are using the open source version of the WordPress software at other hosting providers.

If you just want the ability to manage those sites via your WordPress.com account but keeping them at their current hosts, you can connect them here via the Jetpack plugin. To do that you first need to log into the sites directly and install that plugin, and then follow the connection steps for that plugin.

    https://Jetpack.com

Before you do this you will also have to update your WordPress version. WordPress 3.0 is very outdated, and besides using outdated software like that causing a host of security issues, you will not be able to use Jetpack on those sites with such an old version of WordPress.

If you want to move those sites to us completely so we are hosting them for you, please see our site migration instructions here:
