I can't access to an old account and I'm paying a blog with it that I wanna stop
-
hello,
I create this thread because a french admin told me to (link to the OG thread in french : https://wordpress.com/fr/forums/topic/probleme-acces-a-un-compte/?view=all#post-142643)
I,ve got a problem on another account : (email visible only to moderators and staff) and I lost the password but I also don’t have the authenticator app or the 10 codes provided when i registed.
the problem is that I have paypal anual payments for a blog (http://thehappyplace.fr/) I created with this account.
So I want to stop paying for this but I can’t log in my old accountCan I retrieve the access to this account or, at least, can you stop the anual payment on paypal ?
below is the translation of a paypal bill :
[redacted from public view]
Thank you

Hey there, I’ve redacted your some of the details from this thread so others can’t use that info to gain account access, but I have noted them for staff.
In this case, the payment is really old (over a year, which is beyond the refund policy) but if you’ll regain account access, you can certainly cancel upcoming payments. You’ll just want to talk to support first about the repercussions: for example, the upgraded feature you have is no longer available. Removing it means you won’t be able to get it back.
Are you able to fill out the recovery form mentioned here?

Hi Supernovia,
It’s ok if I don’t get any refund.
I already filled the recovery form several times since I lost my password but the answer is :
You should be able to recover your account simply by filling out the lost password form with the email address you’ve provided. Please check your spam folder for the reset email.
If you still can’t log in after another reset attempt and checking your spam folder, please resubmit the form below and we’ll try to lend a hand.
But when I fill the lost password form it asks me if I have the authenticator app or the 10 codes provided when i registed which I don’t… Then tells me that if I have neither of them, I just can’t access my acount… It’s a never ending story… I tried last year and gave up cause I didn’t find the forum at that time..

Hi there,
To clarify, you are referring to the form here? https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery
If you notice, that form gives you 3 choices, and you only have to pick one. For example you could pick the transaction ID option, then enter the random bunch of numbers and letters (17 characters in total) that is included in the email we sent confirming the transaction.
If you try that instead of the backup codes option on the form, does it allow you to proceed?

Hi Jerry,
Yes, I am referring to the “recovery form”.
I noticed the 3 choices and I never selected the backup codes option on the form because I don’t have them…. So no, It doesn’t allow me to proceed. It asks me, As I said before, to
fill out the lost password FORM
And when I fill out the LOST PASSWORD FORM, they ask me the backup codes…
To be clear : Nothing the website propose to recover my account work, because it ends by asking me thoses 10 backup codes that I don’t have.
Can’t you just reset my password on the old account and send me the new password by mail or something ? Or just stop the automatic payment ?
Thank ou very much for your answers.

Hello there,
Many thanks for that confirmation – I’ve forwarded this on to the account recovery team for review, they should be in touch via email.
Can’t you just reset my password on the old account and send me the new password by mail or something ? Or just stop the automatic payment ?
We wouldn’t be able to do that without permission from the account owner, but hopefully we should be a step closer to that.
