I CANT COPY AND PASTE CODE INTO MY SITE

  • Unknown's avatar

    I copied and pasted a code from another web site into my webpage and then it disappeared after publishing the post.

    According to the ‘help’ link from WordPress, “the code is likely being stripped out.” Why is this so? It’s annoying. Also, according to the ‘help’ link on WordPress, “If you feel it’s being stripped out improperly or if you would like to suggest additional types of code we should allow, please contact support.”

    I do believe my code is being improperly stripped out. Please explain why this is happening to me, and please correct the issue for me as soon as possible. I will really appreciate it a lot.

    Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely, Aarthi.

    Hi Aarthi,

    Can you copy and paste that code in your reply here so I can see what it is? That will help me understand why it might be stripped out here at WordPress.com.

    Hello Rachel. Thank you for your prompt response. I wasn’t expecting a reply this soon! But it’s very welcome…

    This is what it was:

    <form action=”https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr” method=”post” target=”_top”>
    <input type=”hidden” name=”cmd” value=”_s-xclick”>
    <input type=”hidden” name=”hosted_button_id” value=”TVDC8HN3P3GSJ”>
    <input type=”image” src=”https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif” border=”0″ name=”submit” alt=”PayPal – The safer, easier way to pay online!”>
    <img alt=”” border=”0″ src=”https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/i/scr/pixel.gif” width=”1″ height=”1″>
    </form>

    I got this off PayPal, as I would like to add a ‘donate’ button to my website as I would appreciate some external funding as running my blog costs me money. Also, I intend to publish Children’s Stories as well and would like to encourage my readers (the few that they are, to download my stories for free when I start writing them and publish to my site. I don’t want advertising though. So i want to ask for donations-is this allowed on WordPress?

    although this isn’t the first code I’ve written that wasnt working-previously, a couple of weeks ago, i copied a “plug-in” i think its called, from Facebook-so that i could add a Follow button to my site-that code was also stripped it seems?…

    also. i would like to add that, in december i think, i added a code from LinkedIn onto my webpage so that people can view my linkedin profile via a button i chose off their site-that worked perfectly!

    that is why i dont understand why the codes since then are being “stripped”?

    although i have since removed that LinkeDin button because i dont want people to view my profile on there anymore…

    is this enough information? hope it helps.

    also, after i paste and publish the above mentioned code into my webpage it ends up looking like this:

    <img alt=”” border=”0″ src=”https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/i/scr/pixel.gif” width=”1″ height=”1″/>

    Hi there,

    Many (but not all) widgets and plugins include code like Javascript or forms that aren’t allowed WordPress.com. If it has code that isn’t allowed here, it will get stripped out. That’s why some pieces of code you get from other sites will work and some won’t.

    For PayPal, you’re welcome to put a donate button on your site. However, some of the codes that PayPal creates won’t work here at WordPress.com. You’ll need to follow the steps in our PayPal guide to create a button that will work on your site.

    Please let me know if you have any questions about that!
