I can’t log on!

    Hello lovely WordPress community

(Please forgive my lack of technology knowledge and language – I have a Chronic Health Condition that gives me awful brain fog!)

I’m really confused and would really love your help.

I can no longer log on to my existing wordpress blog to write a post, view the statistics etc. I set up this blog in July 2015 and it’s been brilliant, no problems whatsoever.

But when I log in now, it brings up a really old blog I set up but no longer use. I’ve tried all the passwords I’ve used, but still can’t change over to the current blog.

I create and post a free Kindness Calendar every month and have around 1000 followers, my posts automatically get sent to these followers via email.

I’ve been using the WP Admin/Dashboard to post for the last couple of months, but they haven’t been emailed to my followers and I prefer the other page to write posts in (the one where you see statistics, followers etc – if I could post a pic, that would help! I can’t find my statistics or my followers and don’t want to lose them. Since I set up this blog, every blog I’ve posted has gone to all my followers, but the last two posts (from Sept) haven’t.

I’m posting an important post on Monday 25th November – my Kindness Advent Calendar – and would like it to go to my followers via email.

Please can you help me? I hope I’ve explained everything clearly.

Just in case I haven’t, to summarise I would appreciate help with:
    1) Logging back into my current blog site
    2) Being able to see my statistics and followers
    3) Ensure every post is automatically sent to my followers.

    Thank you so much

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • 1. You’ll log in to http://maketodayhappy.co.uk/ at http://maketodayhappy.co.uk/wp-login.php

    2. You’ll still see stats and followers for the site though under https://wordpress.com/stats/day/maketodayhappy.co.uk

    3. It looks like you’ve already got that set up. :)

To clear up some confusion, http://maketodayhappy.co.uk/ is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with TSO Host, and WordPress.org and WordPress.com are entirely separate entities: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

This is why you log into http://maketodayhappy.co.uk/ differently than you would https://freedomfromfatigue.wordpress.com/

With all that said though, you have connected http://maketodayhappy.co.uk/ to your WordPress.com account by way of the https://jetpack.com/ plugin.

The Jetpack plugin allows you to use already built-in WordPress.com features on your self-hosted WordPress.org site. That’s why, even though you log into your site separately of WordPress.com, all of your stats and followers are managed here.

So, in short, you do have a self-hosted WordPress.org site, but it’s using some WordPress.com features. :)

I hope I’ve explained that well, and please let us know if you have any more questions!

Thank you so much for your time and advice.

Thank you for explaining the .org and .com, and how I could get onto .com via jetpack. That totally makes sense.

It seems the plug in for Jetpack has disappeared, which would explain why I can no longer log onto the .com site. When I try (Including following your link from your point 2.) it logs onto the old and unused Freedom From Fatigue not Make Today Happy.

Am I correct in thinking I need to sort out jetpack in order to gain access to the .com and stats, followers etc. I’m really not sure how to do this. As if I just download the jetpack plug in, will I be able to locate and not lose access to my followers?

    Thank you so much 😊

That is correct. Once you have Jetpack connected you will see that information from the dashboard.

At this time, when running the site through out debugging tool it shows us that we are unable to make an XML-RPC request to your website. Please make sure that XML-RPC is turned on and that Jetpack is installed, activated and connected with your WordPress.com account. If the error persists, try disconnecting and connecting Jetpack again.

    Thank you so much.

I think the problem was that my PHP was out of date and not secure, so I’ve just gone though all of that and managed to download Jetpack, and everything looks good – so far.

I’m not sure how to find XML-RPC to turn it out – would you mind explaining that a little bit more.

Also, I want to make sure that my post on Monday goes out automatically to my email subscribers. How can I check this?

    Thank you 😊

    Hello again,

I’ve sorted it all out, and now thankfully have Jetpack back and can see my statistics and followers.

I’ve just done a test post, but it’s failing to publish. I’ve checked everything and it seems ok. I don’t know how to find out why it’s not publishing.

    Thank you so much 😊

I’m so sorry, but I”ve just sorted it. I deleted it and did it again and it worked.

    Thank you 😊

  • We’re so glad you’ve got it. Thank you for the update, and enjoy your weekend!
