    How can I get past this and just read a friend’s blog?

    Hi there,

    I’m not sure I understand. What is the link of the blog you want to read, and why do you think you need a credit card?

    The only situation where you are required to pay to read something on a WordPress.com site is if the owner of that site offers paid content via a subscription on the site. That is something that’s controlled by the site owner, so if you have a problem with that you’ll need to contact the site owner directly.
