I don’t understand how this all fits together. What am I paying WordPress for? The use of the theme I assume.

  I’ve bought a Theme. I’ve paid for hosting with Siteground. Now I’m being asked to pay another $300+

  Hi there if your site is hosted on Siteground you don’t need to buy an upgrade plan here on WordPress.com.

  WPcom (where we are ) and WP are separate entities with different documentation and support forums. More information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  For help with a site using the open source WP software, you’ll want to head over to https://wordpress.org/support/ where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using. If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page.

  Just to clarify, this support forum assists users hosted on the WPcom platform.
