  Will I be able to change the username of the account I keep to the username of the account I close?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  You cannot change the username on one account to that of an existing or closed account.

  Instead, consider transferring your sites to the desired account: https://wordpress.com/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
