I have a paid plan through my host Start Logic but JetPack plugin gets an error.

I have a paid plan through my host Start Logic but JetPack plugin gets an error. When I click the button ‘setup JetPack’ it thinks about it then comes back with this error.
‘The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site https://danlockhartphotography.com [HTTP 500]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: http://jetpack.com/support/’

I contacted my web host ‘Start Logic’ and they said everything looks good on their side and that it’s a problem with the plugin. Advised to contact JetPack… since this plugin is supported in WordPress I am starting with you, because WordPress returns the above error.

Funny thing is everything in website looks good managed through WordPress, in the Start Logic WordPress profile it doesn’t show my Gravatar. But when I login to WordPress stand alone it does. Also, when I look at the standalone WordPress account it does have any of my Start Logic WordPress updates.

There is definitely some kind of communication problem here. Start Logic says it’s a problem with the WordPress Jet Pack plugin.

    I need some help.

  • We’re being blocked from accessing https://danlockhartphotography.com/xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack which Jetpack requires to function.

Unfortunately, blocking XML-RPC is not a great solution for fighting security risks. It’s akin to selling your car because you don’t want it to be stolen.

Your site’s XML-RPC file is kind of like a communication gateway to your site. Jetpack, the WordPress Mobile Apps, and other plugins and services will use this file to communicate to your site. If this is blocked, you will have other issues pop-up down the road for the same reasons.

If you are using any security plugins, please try connecting with those temporarily deactivated. If you don’t have any, or if that didn’t work, I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to unblock your site’s XML-RPC. The most popular hosting providers out there have managed to find other ways to protect their servers without having to hinder your site and your ability to use services with your WordPress site.

If they refuse to make any changes, and if you want to use apps and plugins like Jetpack, I’d suggest looking for a new host. Here are a few hosts we recommend: https://jetpack.com/hosting/
