I have some additional questions about the "Guided Transfer" option.
-
I’m thinking about moving my blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, using the Guided Transfer feature. I currently use a Premium Theme (Debut by Luke McDonald). I realize that the premium theme cannot be transferred, but if I went in (before the transfer) and installed the theme on the new host, could I then use the Guided Transfer option to do the rest?
Thanks!

Hi Oliver, our Guided Transfer team installs WordPress on your site from a fresh installation, so it’s best not to already have a WordPress install (or any themes) already present. Once the Guided Transfer team has finished its setup, you’re then free to install whatever themes you like!
Just let me know if you need further help.

OK, that makes sense. Is there any way to prevent a visual disturbance on the page while the transition happens? If I switch to another theme to do the transfer, it’s going to radically change how my content is presented. I’m sure you could time it so it’s minimal. I’m just trying to work out the logistics of it all :)

A Guided Transfer can only be purchased and executed for a site that doesn’t have a premium theme active.
That said, after you purchase the Guided Transfer, you may reactivate your premium theme temporarily during the interim period. Your Guided Transfer Happiness Engineer will let you know when your transfer is scheduled, and you can deactivate the theme just before it happens. As soon as the Guided Transfer is done and the switchover to you new host is complete, you’ll be free to reinstall your premium theme if you’ve purchased it from the developer in its self-hosted version.
I hope this clarifies the process – let me know if you have any other questions.
