I just switched to theme twenty ten and my featured images aren’t showing up

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Here’s more detail:
All of my posts and pages have featured images that worked with my last theme (which I think was just the older version of this theme). Now only one or two posts and pages show the featured image and they only show the featured images when I go to that post or page, not on the front page. Formerly, the front page had a scroll of posts with the featured images appearing above the titles as well as showing the featured image on the page when a user clicked through. I would like the images to show up both on the specific post or page and on the scroll on the front page.

A good work around seems to be to put the picture full size and centered at the top of the post and not use the featured image feature…just not sure that’ll generate a unique thumbnail for facebook. (Using the work around makes it better cause the smfeatired image now replaces my header which it didn’t used to do and I don’t like that).

    Hi there,

Each theme uses featured images in different ways, so when you switch themes it can change how those featured images are used on your site.

In the Twenty Ten theme, featured images that are at least 940 pixels wide and 198 pixels tall will appear as a custom header image on posts and pages. If you’d like your images to appear in other places, as well, you’ll need to include those images in the post content as you mentioned in your last update.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that!

Tyvm…one last thing – if I put an improper sized image in featured images and it doesn’t show up as a header, will it still show up as a thumbnail in facebook? Is there any other way to set a thumbnail image for facebook?

    Hi there,

Facebook will look for large images in your posts, so even if you don’t have a featured image it will look for an image within the post itself. But setting a smaller featured image like you proposed should also work (as long as it’s not too small — Facebook prefers larger images).

One other thing that happened when I (accidentally yet permanently!) changed themes is that my site no longer defaults to a mobile version on my phone. Can you tell me how to change it back?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sure! You can enable the mobile theme under Themes > Mobile in your dashboard:

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

thank you so much! i did try to find it myself first but I just couldn’t figure it out. i love wordpress – just love it – but i have two complaints…i find it very difficult to use intuition to figure out stuff like this – that used to be a borderline deal breaker for me because i also couldn’t get help but now that i’m getting personal responses like these from you it’s fine with me as long as it’s fine with you! second thing is, i don’t know my number of uniques…i saw there’s a google analytics option but it boosts my annual fee by $200+ and it’s not worth it to me just for that one number. just letting you know in case you are asked for feedback like this from your interactions with customers. thanks again for your prompt and personal responses to my questions.

Thanks for that feedback! You’re always welcome to get in touch if you have questions or feedback for us. :)
