Hi there!
There are several ways you can build a website for a client. Here’s a brief about them:
You as the site owner:
- Invite your clients as administrators:
This way, you create the site on your WordPress.com account and invite your client(s) as the Administrator to the site. Here are the instructions for adding people to a site. - After they accept the invite and become administrators, they can pay for the WordPress.com plan and any other upgrades (such as Professional Email) they need for the site. If you’d like to pay for the upgrades and transfer the billing to them once the site has been built, you can do that too. May I know what your preference is with regards to billing?
- Once the site is ready, you can either transfer the site ownership (along with all subscriptions, if you paid for them) to your client. If you need to maintain the site for them, you can remain as an administrator or leave the site.
You as the administrator:
- The alternative is your client creates the site, pays for the subscriptions, and adds you as the administrator of the site.
- As the administrator, you have full access to the site’s features, so you can build the site for them as needed.
- Once the site is ready, you can remain as an administrator for continued support or leave the site if you’re no longer part of the site.
Hope that helps! What do you think about the options above? Which one suits you best? Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.
