I suspect a fraud with my other email

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I just received an email to confirm my wordpress account and I did not subscribed. I have a domain and two emails with that domain. I have my account with one of my email and I juste received a confirmation for my other email with the same domain. I went ti wordpress.com, tried to connect with that other email and it says this account is not confirm yet, but already exist. I did not clic on the confirm button in the email I received because I did not tried to subscribe with this email. What can I do to be sure this other email will not be use with ‘a body I don’t know’

    Thank you

  • Good morning –

Continue to ignore the email if you are not requesting it. It could be that someone just had a typo when trying to set up their own account, which meant that your email address was used by accident. These things happen from time to time.

    This is what I suggest:

    1. Change the passwords on your email accounts. They should be strong, and not something that is easily remembered or guessable.

    2. Enable 2 factor authorization on your email accounts (and any online accounts that offer that security feature).

    3. Update your WordPress.com account password. Same rules apply, it should be strong and never shared with any one else.

    4. Enable 2 factor authorization on your WordPress.com user account(s).

If someone is doing this maliciously they will not be successful so long as your email account remains secure. They need access to it in order to confirm, as you have experienced.

Write back with any more questions.

Here’s how you set up 2 factor authorization: https://en.support.wordpress.com/selecting-a-strong-password/
