I switched to Wix and was wondering if I lost all my content
-
Hi all. I’m a novice blogger and found it easier to do the simple things I needed to do over at Wix, so I transferred my domain over there about two months ago. I’m assuming I lost all my old content from my WordPress blog since it’s no longer accessible? When I log in to WordPress now it doesn’t show I have any sites to manage.
I was originally thinking my content would stay and switch over to a free WP site, but I guess I was wrong about that. It’s not the end of the world, though there were a few recipes on there I’d love to have back! If anyone can confirm my content is gone, would you let me know?
Thanks and have a great day :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
Your content would, by default, remain on the free site that was attached to the domain. Can you tell me what free site address you used? I think you may just be signed in to the wrong user account which is why you aren’t finding it.

My domain is http://www.theexcellentwife.com which is now on Wix. I don’t recall using a free site, so I can’t answer that. I don’t suppose it would just go automatically to something like http://www.wordpress.com/theexcellentwife.com?

Hi there,
Switching a domain to another provider switches only the domain, applying it to a completely different site. Think of it as removing the cover from one book, and putting it on a different book. Moving over the content is a completely separate process, and it sounds like you didn’t do that as well, right?
The bad news is we can’t help you get the content back, as your content was never with us either. You were using WordPress for your own site, but the open source software, installed on Hostgator.com’s servers, not WordPress.com, so there was no free site for your content to switch back to:

So whether or not your old site still exists will depend on whether or not your hosting plan at Hostgator is still active, and/or whether they still have a backup of your site’s files on their servers. Please contact their support directly to ask about this.
Failing that, you might be able to at least manually recover some content from the Wayback Machine – a site that archives websites across the web by periodically taking snapshots of their content and appearance. It does look like they have snapshots of your site going back several years.

Very helpful. Thank you! “Wayback Machine” – love the idea of that and especially the name.
I’ll check with Host Gator & appreciate the advice to do so. Thanks for your well-written and easy-to-understand feedback.
Have a great week!
