I want make purchased domain stand-alone site
-
Hi —
I have a WP site already and wanted to start another site to be hosted on WP, but I bought the domain and instead of being stand-alone it keeps pointing back to my original domain.
I want to separate the newly purchased domain and create a whole new web destination with it; how do I make the newly purchased domain stand-alone (points to the URL bought, not the one I already owned)?
Thanks!

Hi there,
First, create a new free site starting here: https://wordpress.com/start/site/
On the domains step, only select a free WordPress.com address.
Once the new site is created, you should then be able to transfer the domain to the new site as described here:
Or you can contact us to help with this.
Also note that your Business Plan gives you access to 24/7 live chat support via the Help icon appearing in My Sites, or the contact form at https://wordpress.com/help/contact. You can get help with your site there immediately, rather than having to wait for an answer in the forums.

That didn’t seem to work. I set up the new free site but did not see it when I went to transfer the site I want. It said “No sites found.”

Ah, it asked me to “Please choose a site with a paid plan” — the new site I started was is a free site.

@usafeaturesmedia Oh, right. The new site will need a plan to support the domain.
Can you add whichever plan works best for you? I’ve added $26 credit to your account since you already paid for the domain separately.

Feel free to come back to us once you’ve chosen a plan and we can check everything looks okay from our side :)

I downloaded the MH Magazine theme for the new site and have redirected it –> http://www.greatpowerwar.com — and it seems to be working. The theme is glitchy, however, and I’m trying to get it to work.
