Hi. I need to renew and would like to change my theme to one I found about a month ago, http://theme.wordpress.com/themedoc/further/
I bookmarked it so was able to bring it up that way but cant find it in themes on your site.

I want to make sure I can apply it before paying for the wordpress.combusiness

    Please help ASAP.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there, the Further theme has been retired. Thanks for pointing out that stray page in the directory.

Sorry for any inconvenience – hopefully you’ll be able to find another theme you like instead!

Just let me know if I can help with anything else.

that is a huge bummer. what would have happened if I purchased it when i found it and set it all up and then you retired it. would i have to re do a whole new theme?>

  • I’m sorry for the disappointment! Folks who had already purchased it can keep using it, it’s just not available to use on new sites.

Further is actually becoming the basis for the next free default theme for WordPress, Twenty Fourteen – you can see the demo site here:
    http://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/

While it’s not available yet, the aim is to have it ready before the end of the year.

There are lots of other great themes available now – I hope you find one you like!

So, can you answer my other question too?
I am relatively new to this whole thing.

I was ready to switch over to Further, I have very little content currently but am ready to start adding more on a regular basis. I do not know AT ALL how difficult it is to switch content from one theme to another.

As I am most interested inTwentyFourteen, would the best thing for me to do be to be to keep TwentyEleven, as I have it now, and then transfer it over when Twenty Fourteen comes available?

Is there a way to make it closer in format…or are they just totally different?

I have to decide what I am purchasing today Premium or Business. I was all ready to go a couple of days ago but then Further wasn’t there….now I am on crunch time.

I am eager to change my format to add all of the different section that are on the left side of the TwentyFourteen page, like Books, Art, Film, Food, Politics, etc. I do not see how to do that in the current theme I have.

Please advise me. So basically my question is twofold.

How to change my format now, and what will be the easiest to transfer to TwentyFourteen .

    Thanks,

    India Ennis

  • It is very easy to switch themes at any time, and you won’t lose the content of your posts and pages. Most of your widgets should be fine, too, as they’re theme-independent except in a few special cases.

What likely won’t carry over well is any CSS customizations you make through the Custom Design upgrade, since CSS is mostly theme-specific. You would likely need to redo those tweaks when you change themes.

You may want to look for another magazine-style theme:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/search/magazine/

There are a number of free and premium themes that might be closer to what you’re after than Twenty Eleven, which is quite far from a magazine-style theme. You may want to have another look above and see if there’s another theme out there that looks more like what you want.

thanks. I have foound a good theme I think. what i cannot figure out is how to get the quicklink tabs to put at the top so readers can post my blog entry to their Facebook, twitter, etc. pages. How do you do that?

  • Great! Glad you found a theme you like.

You can set up sharing buttons on each post by heading over to Settings > Sharing, and selecting the services you want. Full instructions are here:

    Sharing

    Happy blogging!

Kathryn, Thanks for all of your help. I did that which is great , but what I was looking for were the ones that are showing in the demo of this theme, Mystique, where they are poking out of the top of the header (I believe), isn’t that where people can then share you whole blog, not just a single entry?

I have looked through the sharing section pretty carefully and don;t see how to do that, it’s one of the reasons I chose this theme.
    THanks,

  • Ah, you can activate those this way:

    Fun Social Links

Under “Social Icons” in Appearance → Theme Options choose the services you wish to show in your site header, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, and RSS. The services each get a custom icon that links to the URL you choose for it.

    More info about configuring Mystique.

Oh, so the point of those is not so that the reader can post the entry to that link of theirs, as in their own Pinterest page or whatever, but it is so that they can quickly link to my other pages like my twitter, Pinterest, Facebook.
    Is that right?

I feel like that is right, and I am just being dense.

  • That’s exactly right. :-)

The sharing links below each post allow folks to quickly share individual posts through their own social-media accounts.

On the other hand, the links to your social-media accounts at the top of the site let people quickly follow/like your own Twitter, Facebook, and other accounts.

    Hi Kathryn,
So I was unclear when you listed the social icons as Facebook, twitter, youtube, rss, flickr, that those were the ONLY ones available. I thought that they were customizable. I don’t use all of those particular ones, I use Pinterest, as I mentioned and Tumblr as well as some others.

    So my question is twofold:
Will the twentyfourteen have more social icons?
If not can I possibly change and get the business package that was the option when I re-upped? I was confused and had I understood, I would have purchased the additional unlimited custom themes for the addl $99 at that time.

    Thanks.

  • Will the twentyfourteen have more social icons?

I don’t know – Twenty Fourteen just started being developed and it has a long way to go before it’s released. :-)

If not can I possibly change and get the business package that was the option when I re-upped?

Sure – if you’d like to switch upgrades from Premium to Business, just let me know and I can help you get that set up.
