I WAS going to buy a plan but have too many questions

After MANY years (decades, in fact) with another site builder/host, I finally decided to switch, most likely to Word Press. BUT I have a lot of questions regarding plans and what exactly comes with them.

NOW I see that Word Press does NOT HAVE A SALES PHONE NUMBER. For a support phone number, you have to have a paid plan before you can talk to a human. I can’t do that if I can’t find answers about which plan is the one I need!!!

I am NOT spending time “talking” to an AI chat box that gives me the exact same info that is on the website. I can find that myself!

I’ll go back to looking for other website hosts… shame, too, because I THOUGHT I had found the right replacement for my needs.

There are only three paid plans to choose from. It really comes down to how much you want to spend and how much storage you need. Is your site a “hobby” site or for a business where you’d want to sell things making the Business plan the obvious choice.

WordPress.com doesn’t have a support phone number at all. According to your plan, you get support for a free site on this public forum, paid plans can get chatsupport, emailsupport, …

Yep, it is frustrating when you have questions and can’t connect to a pre-sales number, but fortunately you found our community forums where we’re happy to answer any questions you might have.

As both @themagicrobot and @staartmees already mentioned, the best place to look to understand what is included in each plan is the Pricing page. On that page, you can click the “Compare Plans” just below the pricing table to expand and see a more detailed range of each plan’s features.

Otherwise, let us know what features you think you need.

@justjennifer : do you work for Automattic?

Actually, a couple of years ago you could email the support even as a free user or if you didn’t have an account yet. Now you get an AI-answer instead, but with the question if this was sufficient or if you want an answer from a real human support team member. So it seems that you can still get a reply from an actual human if you reply to the answer the AI generated for you?

Anyways, what I was wondering: it says that if you pay for an entire year you get 4€ for a “Personal” plan, or 8€ for a “Premium”. With further (higher) discounts when paying for 2 years at once. Is that a one-off promotion, or will you keep that same price when renewing after that 1 or 2 year(s)?

PS: a good host with good support is worth paying for in my opinion. :)

Its certainly better to pay annually rather than monthly. It is better to pay for two years or even three years initially if you are definitely committed to having a site for the long term. But I doubt even members of staff here (or at any other host) can guarantee what prices will be in two years time any more than someone selling a new car or a tin of soup today can say what it will cost in 2028.

Nope, just a long-time forum volunteer like @staartmees and @themagicrobot

As @themagicrobot said, we can’t predict if there will be a price increase or a change in plan features.

For the time that I’ve been here with a paid upgrade plan (so far), the renewal cost has been the same as the initial cost. The only exception to that is when you register a new domain name as a part of your upgrade plan. From the second year, you pay for the upgrade plan and the domain renewal separately.

If you use an externally registered domain (“don’t keep all eggs in the same basket” philosophy of keeping hosting, domain registration and email separately) then that wouldn’t be an issue.

But the WordPress.com pricing overview per plan does indicate a discount (even over 50%) if you pay for 1 or 2 years at once. I guess the renewal price after that 1 or 2 year(s) will have the same discount compared to those who pay monthly?

Annual payments are much less of a bother anyways.
