ICANN Domain
-
Hi, I recently received an email wanting to verify my contact information for ICANN. It was talking about a domain I used to use. I used to have a WordPress account, but I thought I deleted it and the domain name a year ago. So, I’m confused on why I’m even getting an email regarding a domain I thought I didn’t have anymore. I had to set up a new WordPress account just to get on here and ask this question. So, why am I getting emails about an old an old domain I used to own when I don’t even have an active WordPress account. I thought I got rid of all that a long time ago. I don’t want to be charged for a domain that I’m not using.

Okay, it looks like you cancelled that domain in January.
When you cancel a domain, it’s not completely deleted right away, but it can remain parked with us until it expires. But this means the domain is technically still registered, and our registrar partner must send certain notifications to the domain admin contact email, that is, the email address you provided when you registered the domain, as the domain approaches expiration.
We know this isn’t the best experience, and we are working on changing our internal processes so you won’t receive emails like this any more. For now, you can just ignore the email you received. Hopefully we’ll have our new process in place before our registrar partner has to send you renewal reminder emails as well, but if not, you can just ignore those also.
