if I buy a domain here on WordPress can I carry the domain over in the future?

  can I use my domain on a different hosting later, for example if in 2 years my website really picked up and I figure I would like to use my domain and get a professional team to run/upkeep my website on dedicated hosting servers, can I easily transfer my domain later on?

  Yep, it’s very easy and that’s why I generally always suggest getting a custom domain sooner rather than later.

  When you move hosts you can either keep the domain management here at WP.com or move it to a different company. Generally I find it easier to keep it here, and the cost is very reasonable.
