If I get a custom domain name, is my .wordpress domain still active?
-
I want to get a custom domain name, but I have marketing material out with QR codes and the domain name armstrongpiefest.wordpress.com. I don’t want to lose the current (armstrongpiefest.wordpress.com) domain name and have all of my marketing material thrown out the window.
Blog url: http://armstrongpiefest.wordpress.com/The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

the old links will work – seamless – your visitors will just see a new URL in their browser

If what you are asking is “will I lose any content by purchasing a domain mapping upgrade and mapping a domain name to my content in my .wordpress.com blog?” the answer is no. What changes is the URLs only. Please read these:

So as I read it on the last link from timethief, everytime someone in the future goes to armstrongpiefest.wordpress.com, there WILL be a redirect to the new domain name. That is what I needed to know.
I got burned when I did a facebook rename of my festival page, the URL changed and now when people use that QR Code it takes them to a bad facebook link! It was a dumb mistake I made, and just wanted to avoid a repeat if possible. Thanks, auxclass and timethief!
