“Illegal character” found in site Export
-
The site above is a blog, with some images, and mostly text. Comments are enabled.
When I Export Content as a .hml file, I find a .zip file is created; it expands as expected. When I try to open this file, I see the following error message:
“We can’t open the file. An invalid character was found in the “text” content”. Then the line and column details are appended.
Is there any way around this problem, like exporting in a different format (.csv, for example) or any way of only exporting the posts (but without comments; one of the programs I tried identified the invalid character is in a comment), or some other way? I could copy and paste, but there are 170 longish posts…
Thanks in advance!

You can only export a wordpress.com site as a XML-file, https://wordpress.com/support/export/

So can you suggest a program that can read an xml file, one that contains an illegal character? I tried Word, Excel, Chrome, Notes and Text Edit, but all fail and the illegal character is always the reason given in the error code.
