I’m hidden

according to Google Console and BIng, They are not doing anything with my site. Google has excluded it, neither of them are allowing it to be indexed or searched for. None of my posts are findable upon it or anything. Please help me find out why.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

according to Google Console and BIng

Could you tell us exactly what message they’re displaying there? We’ll check it out for you.

For what it’s worth, I was able to confirm that your robots.txt file is open to search engines, hiding only wp-admin and its related files. Google won’t need to index those, just the content on your site.

Thank you for replying. Google Console shows no activity on my site whatsoever. Google is not indexing anything. Its non-existent over there. I have screenshots but don’t know how to show you. Its showing the site as excluded in the index coverage screen. and 14 errors in the sitemap screen. I guess those are why nothing I create on WordPress is findable through search engines.

  • Hi there,

I’m able to find your site in Google using a direct site search, site:theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com:

    https://www.google.co.za/search?ei=K_X4XMK1J8mhkwWqyb_QCw&q=site%3Atheworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com&oq=site%3Atheworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com&gs_l=psy-ab.3…9988.9988..10187…0.0..0.0.0…….0….1..gws-wiz.3PvgcZvc2Nk

I can also see it if I search only the title-section of the address, theworkhousemysteries and the site title itself, The Workhouse Restaurant Mysteries, but in both those cases your site appears to be ranked very low, with results being absolutely dominated by hits related to what I assume is your book itself.

So based on that your site is indexed, but it’s getting a lot of competition from other sites, many of them belonging to book retailers or established book review sites.

Under what URL do you have the site added in search console? The URL at which search engines index your site is https://theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com/

If you have the property verified on Search Console using the http version of the URL, or including a “www”, that might explain any errors on that end.

Please upload your screen shots to the media library at My Site ->Site ->Media, and we can see them there.

    Hello Kokkieh

My console is set to http://theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com I’ll upload the pictures in a moment.

According to those you’ll see my site is doing absolutely nothing. Bing is the same I don’t know how to do others but they will be too. The only hits I get are through me posting my site address in social media or through the reader, making having a site a little pointless at this point.

  • My console is set to http://theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com

From your screen shot what you actually have verified in Search Console is https://www.theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com/

But the URL at which Google has your site indexed is https://theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com/, no “www”.

Distinctions like that matter to search engines.

So the problem isn’t that your site isn’t indexed in search engines – the fact that I can find your site if I search for it in Google proves it is indexed.

I suspect the problem is that you’re looking at data for the wrong URL in Search Console.

Verify the https version of your site in Search Console, and make sure to indicate in Search Console that the https version is the authoritative one, and you should start seeing updated info for it as Search Console starts pulling in that data.

right so that confirms it. without the ‘www.’ the address is a domain, right? I have a free site no domain. I can’t verify the DNS configurations with search sites on that as I don’t have it.

So to get my site posts visible I have to pay.

I knew that was the problem.

  • Unknown's avatar

If you look at the address of your site in a browser you’ll see that it is https://theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com/
That has always been the correct domain for your site. No upgraded plan is required (unless you want to change the address to lose the .wordpress.com at the end).

    Hi Magic Robot.

the problem is I cannot get google and other search engines to verify and allow my site to be visible if I can’t get to the domain DNS file and input the data the search engine requires can I. SO having no domain in a free version means the site remains invisible unless directly searched for which no good. It has to come in searches relating to it too and it doesn’t not even once.

I don’t understand what you mean by “having no domain in a free version”.

The search console only has the ‘www.’ one in it. I can’t have the one without as that’s a domain one. I cannot get to the Domain DNS configuration file. to give it the google spider verification information in the free version of WordPress. Thus I have to pay to get google to properly accept and show my site.

go in the google console and click on the bit where the web address is it’ll ask for verification. and want you to put the google command line into the domain dns file of your webpage. I can’t do that the options are not there in the free version. that’s what I’m saying.

By being free I cannot verfy my site and google will not allow it to be fully searchable.

I don’t think a free site or a paid one makes the slightest difference. You just need to input the correct address in the first place. If you upgrade to a WordPress.com paid plan you still won’t get an address with three wwws as WordPress.com discontinued that years ago and only uses https. (although for now they continue to redirect incorrect addresses typed with wwws ((not https//:www though)) to the correct https address).

So how can verify the site with the search sites if I cant access the domain DNS txt file to put in the verification command line?

Please go to google console and see what it asks when you give it a new site to verify. It wants you to put a command line in your site. You cannot do that without the domain controls which are not visible.

Are you following this support guide that explains how to verify your site with various search engines?

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi Jennifer. The google console particularly wants its own command line to be put in the site domain, DNS txt file.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks @justjennifer. It’s years since I did any jumping through those hoops.

In the Select property type, select URL prefix. Using the new Domain option will not work.
Enter your WordPress.com Site Address (including https://) and click Continue.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you, Jennifer. Hopefully, that’ll get my site to appear organically now. Its been invisible so far.

  • Unknown's avatar

    The sitemaps dont work either.

  • Unknown's avatar

Use the meta tag verification option, not the DNS option and paste the entire meta tag in the corresponding line under Site Verification Services at https://wordpress.com/marketing/traffic/theworkhousemysteries.wordpress.com and click Save Settings.

  • Unknown's avatar

Adding, only click the Verify button on Google after you have added the meta tag line and saved your settings.
