I’m not sure WP even has the plugin I need – please HELP!

    I need to build a website that shows in real time available spaces in a book. Just like purchasing seating at any event when you see what seats are available and which aren’t. I want to do the same thing only with pages in a book. I want to make available sections of a page and let people visually see represented in real time what is available and what is not, then select whatever they want and after checking out those sections of the page show as unavailable for whoever else comes onto my site. I tried looking through plugins on the WordPress.ORG, but not even sure if I’m looking in the right place. Even so, I’m lost as to what you would even call such a plugin. Not only am I having trouble searching, but WP is insisting I transfer my domain before searching and I’m not even sure I want to use WP……I’m quickly remembering why I hate WordPress now. Anyway, thank you in advance to whoever can help me figure this out!

    Hi there,

    The plugins directory at WordPress.org/plugins is the best place to search, though there are also many WordPress plugins available online that are not listed in the official directory. That does mean they haven’t been reviewed by the plugins team on WordPress.org, so proceed with caution with those.

    The best place for advice on the best plugin to use for this would also be the forums on WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/. The WordPress.com forums where you’re posting now is for free users of WordPress.com who don’t have the ability to install plugins, so our expertise to advise you here is very limited.

    I’d think any ecommerce plugin could work for this, though – you can set each page in the book as an individual product, which then goes “out of stock” once it’s bought. Or else a booking plugin might work, where each page is equal to a slot available for booking. In either case you might need to do some customization to make the plugin fit your use case, but support for the specific plugin would be better able to advise you in that regard.

    I assume you’re speaking of the signup flow to create a new site with us on WordPress.com? WordPress.com is not the same thing as WordPress. WordPress is the name of the software made by the community on WordPress.org. WordPress.com is one of many hosting providers for that software.

    If you create a site with us we ask you if you have a domain already you want to move to us to use with your site, but there’s no requirement to do so, and you can also create your site with a free address we provide, and which you can select right there on the domains page.

    However, note that to use your own domain with a WordPress.com site will require a paid plan, and if you want to use plugins with a site hosted on WordPress.com you’ll need our Business Plan.
