I'm running out of space with 13 megs. images are 890×437 pixels at 72 dpi?

  I am building a site using the Avid portfolio theme. I purchased an additional 10 megs of space which specified that I would have enough room for 2500 pictures. However, I have just started loading my portfolio images at it says “You are currently using 5.5 MB out of 13.0 GB upload limit (0%)”. the images i am posting are 890×437 pixels at 72 dpi (less than the 1140×700 recommended). what am i doing wrong?
