Image resizing question

  I take screenshots of my computer screen and transfer them to jpegs files that are small, like 100-200kb. But when I upload them, they are resized and they balloon into files that are 400+kb. Why is this happening and how do I get around this annoying resizing?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet
