Hello,
I did not realize I am running out of storage space because some of the images I was uploading are too big. I started scaling them all, however, I noticed my space is still increasing, I realized now it’s saving the original and the scaled versions. Could you please advise how I can get rid of the original (big size) images and keep only the scaled ones in my Media Library? Thank you very much!

Not sure how. This happens to any picture I scale down, the space used increases, as I believe it saves the original and the scaled down version. I don’t need to keep the big size originals but I can’t delete them. When I look at a scaled down pic I see the option to restore the original, that’s why I thought it saves both. Thanks!

Sadly, there is no easy way to reduce the size of already uploaded images. As you’ve noticed, the image resizer isn’t so much for reducing space as it is for reducing display size.

Is there a “not so easy” way to do it then? I am ok with going picture by picture, no worries. As long as I don’t have to remove them from posts and reload, as that would take me years…

I’m afraid that is the “not so easy” way to do it. You’d have to delete an image, re-upload it in a smaller size, then re-insert it anywhere you had used it.

The other option to consider is the WordPress.com Premium upgrade:
It is $99/yr, but that may be a better deal than the time to delete and reupload. Plus, you get all the other stuff that comes with Premium
