  What is the optimum size for photos for the blog– can I use 400×300 or do I need 800×600?

  You can use as large of a size as you’d like. If it’s too large, it will be automatically scaled down to the appropriate size.

  I recommend using the largest size that you’re comfortable with, that way they’ll be scaled correctly even if you switch themes.
