Image Sizing

Hello, I would like to add a few pages with multiple images of my art (to show my range of works and have a reference for when people would like to create a custom piece). before I add a bunch of photos to my site. I was wondering what is the best way to do this? should I make my images smaller? if so how? I am not heaps tech savvy (not doing too bad though seeing as I’ve built my website on my own so far) so may need things spelled out for me.

Just to add, I know how to insert images. it’s more so about wether or not I need to make the image sizes smaller so they dont slow down my site, this is the part I dont know much about :)

  • Hi –

Thanks for writing to us. This is a great question.

We have some details written out about general image optimization which would be applicable to your project. It will help your storage space go farther, and the site to perform well on even spotty connections.

    Take a look: https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/

It’s fine to upload a few images on their own in a post and write about the project, the art style, the inspiration, etc…

When you start adding more than a few images, and less text, then I’d consider using a gallery because the visualization is much better in that scenario.

Does that help? Write back to us with more questions. We’re happy to answer those and help you create a successful site to showcase your work.

I’d also suggest reviewing this learning guide which is very useful when first starting out.
