Image thumbnail on Facebook link not showing up.

    I have been using WordPress for a few years and I have always had the post linked to Facebook. In the past few weeks, when I post, the image on the thumbnail link that shows up on Facebook is not showing. It is just gray. I can click on the link in Facebook and it opens fine. Just wondering if something changed? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Can you please give a link to a specific post on your site that’s not showing an image when you share it to Facebook?

    Hi there,

    Here’s how your post shows when I ran it through Facebook’s debugger:

    If you’re still not being able to see the image I suggest running your post through the debugger and click on the Scrape button to force Facebook to update its cache.

    Thank you. I am not sure why this is doing this. It started a few weeks ago and all of the posts since then don’t show.

    I will give your process another try.

    Not sure if I am debugging correctly, but it did not work again. I clicked on the link, copied, and pasted into debug. Still not showing a preview. I can click on it and it shows up, just no preview. This happens with all of my posts now.

    Hmm. Can you try clearing the browser cache and then use the debugging tool once again?

    I tried and it does not work. I really don’t know what I’m doing, but it can’t be that hard. It always worked and then something changed to have the thumbnail preview not show up. It does not show up on the link in anyones computer.

    When I past the link into the debuugger, I get this.

    The provided value for ‘og:url’ might be incorrect.
    The provided property ‘og:url’ (‘https://baycityphotos.wordpress.com/2019/12/10/center-avenue-11/’) does not represent the input URL. You can safely ignore this message after double checking the provided value

    Hi jeffcaverly, I think the issue might be that your theme is old enough it’s not automatically resizing the image for you like our themes have done for the past few years. The image you’ve added for that post is 29 megabytes; Facebook asks that the images be no more than 8.

    Would you be willing to upload smaller versions of the images? They can still be large, just not that big.

    Or, you might consider switching to a newer theme that will take care of image resizing for you.

    We also have themes made for portfolios, but if you prefer posting one photo at a time in a feed, I recommend going for the blogging options.

    Thanks for the file size info. I uploaded smaller file sizes and it worked.
