images disappear from media library?

  files from my media library disappeared. it happened a few times in past. now more frequent. these are my own files. generated by me, not downloaded from anywhere. what happened ? does WordPress deletes these files, by mistake or some one can snatch them from the server? very troubling. thank you.

  I do not remember . I have many in my media library. one specific that disappeared way back was picture of my baby, “tar baby” I could not locate original file in my computer, but luckily, I saw the picture pinned on Pinterest!!!!!! I downloaded and add it back to my library. very degraded. you can see it now. when pictures disappear, there is a blank frame, no picture to load into gallery, when I go to library, blank blank frames. I erased them. next time I wont erase. I hope it wont happen again. security problem? thank you Shawna.

  i gave you one specific example. pic. of TAR baby. WHICH I RETRIEVED FROM PINTEREST, and now in my media library. are we supposed to back up some where else all files we store with WordPress server? i thought WordPress stores our files securely. how secure is storage with WordPress. what more security action should i look into? thank you.

  The issue is that, without a post to look at that shows the original filename on our servers, I cannot look into where that specific file is gone. Knowing what the image is a picture of (in this case a tar baby) is not enough information for me to be able to troubleshoot.

  In almost every case, missing media is a result of accidental, purposeful, or malicious deletion by someone connected to the blog. There have been no other reports of data loss from other blogs which would indicate a systemwide failure of some sort.

  That having been said, as with any storage system, you should always backup important data. While very secure, WordPress.com is a blogging platform and is not designed to function as a “cloud” storage.
