Images not importing from wordpress.org to wordpress.com

I’ve been trying to import my wordpress.org site into my wordpress.com site, but the images aren’t working. I’ve tried importing several times and each time just a few of the many images come over. Is there any way to also import the images? Almost every post has at least one, so it would be a huge pain to have to reinsert all the images.

Hi there!
Are all of your images still accessible via the internet? WordPress export files don’t include the full images in them, just references to the images. Then through the import process WordPress goes and finds the images and imports them from the source.
What’s the URL of the site you’re importing from?

ooh okay so there’s no way to bring the images through at all? thefriendlybooknook.com is my wordpress org blog, but since it’s a relatively small blog I wanted to move to wordpress.com I tried importing but when I redirected the url to the wordpress.com site there were no images in the posts. Well actually, randomly, a few came through but that’s it. I guess I was under the impression that I could just move the blog but if I let the hosting expire, then the images won’t be up on the internet anymore.

Yes. If the hosting is already expired, then you won’t be able to automatically bring the images through. If its just a matter of your mapped domain already being set up, you can temporarily disable that, run the import, then update it again.
If you’re interested in doing that, log into your registrar and change your name servers so that your domain points to the original host of your site. Once the DNS propagates, import your posts. Once all your importing is done, you can change your name servers back to WordPress.com.

Okay just to clarify, that’s what I did, but once I map the domain back to wordpress.com when the import is finished the images break (except for a handful).

Hmm. It sounds like your image references didn’t get updated in your posts. Can you give me a link to a post with a broken image and a link to the image that should appear from your Media Library? I’ll see if there’s a way that we can fix those for you.
