Images not showing in non USA countries

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve had several readers reach out to me recently, explaining my pictures are not showing for them. I host them on a separate host, and when I send them an image URL from there, they can see the images. The problem comes into play when they are on my blog.

I noticed all my pictures get updated with this at the start of the url – i1.wp.com And they cannot load any photos from my site with that in the url address. Is it down or just me says that i1.wp.com is down as well, so perhaps that is the issue. I’ve also seen Jetpack blamed on wordpress.org.

I’ve only had readers from non-USA countries with this problem, so I haven’t been able to recreate it myself to even begin to figure it out.

    I’d appreciate your assistance! Thanks!

  • Hi there,

i1.wp.com is the URL our image CDN uses. It’s not a website you can visit directly, so it’s normal for you to see an error if you try typing just that in your browser.

Our image CDN needs to download the image before it can serve it. It appears that something is preventing this, though, most likely some form of hotlink protection on the server where you’re hosting those images.

I recommend you just upload those images to your WordPress.com media library if you’re going to use them on your WordPress.com site. That way we have full control over how the images are served to your visitors, which would prevent issues like this. But if you choose to hotlink your images from another location that we can’t directly access, there’s not much we can do.

    My host replied with this:

On our shared servers, we usually don’t block any type of hotlinking or access. It could be our firewall has accidentally blocked the IP address of the caching server, if you can ask wordpress what IPs they use we can check to see if any of them are blocked.

    Thanks!

  • You can find a list of our IP addresses here:

    Jetpack

If that doesn’t help, do you want to send a link to the site so we can try to see what you’re seeing?
