Importing a theme

I am looking to create a site for a 4 school martial arts group… Alger has been suggested as the theme – I have loaded the zip file to my PC and want to upload the theme to my existing page to see what it will look like and if it will work for us… do I have to be a business plan to explore this or can I work on the PC and see it before deciding to upgrade and use the Alger theme?

Installing any third-party themes to a WordPress.com site requires our Business Plan.

You can install the self-hosted WordPress software to a virtual server on your own computer and then upload the theme there if you want to try it out. However, you should be aware that the self-hosted version of WordPress does not work exactly the same as a WordPress.com site.
