importing content from Wix

    Hello, I’m trying to import my Wix site to WordPress. I have followed all steps > https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-wix/

    I believe I have plugins on Wix so I created this new site but it still doesn’t work.
    I get the message: It looks like we’re unable to reach that website address at this time. (ID: 94d56feb-562a-4e90-ae75-de564d73015a)

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi there,

    Can you clarify the URL of the page you are on when you see that error message? That will allow us to visit that page and see if can catch this error message on our end as well.

    It will also help if you can share a screenshot of what you are seeing (upload the image to this link and then let us know so we can take a look) as it’s not an error message we are familiar with.

    To clarify (because you have more than one site on your account) you are trying to import Wix content into your https://eatcheaptravel.wordpress.com/ site, yes? For me that site loads and I do not see any error messages. Thanks for confirming.

    I originally tried to import my wix site (https://corrinevanvliet.wixsite.com/eatcheaptravel) to WordPress (cvan08.wordpress.com) but since I have plugins on my Wix site I followed these directions:

    Plugin-Enabled Sites
    If you have a site that has plugins installed or uploaded themes, you will need to first create a new free WordPress.com site on your account and import the Wix content to the free site. This makes the content WordPress-compatible, so you can then export from the free site and import that content into your plugin-enabled site.

    https://eatcheaptravel.wordpress.com/ was created for that purpose.

    The error message reads:
    It looks like we’re unable to reach that website address at this time. (ID: 02a32590-7f53-4557-9280-1da5479f5c9b)
    Try again or get help.

    Thanks for confirming.

    Sadly migrating from Wix can be difficult because they use a closed system and do not provide a way on their end to export content to WordPress sites. This is clear on their export support page, which does not actually show you how to export content

    We are competitors I suppose you could say, though we do not lock down our export ability in this way. You can for example export a WordPress site to Wix without issue whereas our import tool is best described as a workaround, and one that can have issues from time to time.

    The error message you describe is known to our developers and they are investigating a fix but I will be honest in saying we are having difficulty in making headway. I apologize that this is standing in your way to moving your content on to our service.

    On our end we will continue to see what we can do to address this issue, and we are happy to update this post as soon as we have more info. In the meantime other WordPress site owners have reported success in using the “RSS Import” method discussed here: https://themeisle.com/blog/transfer-from-wix-to-wordpress/

    If you give that method a try it should import most of your content (though not your visual design) over to our service. Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
