Importing from a previous backup

Hello. I have a .tar backup from our previous site which was exported from older version of WordPress. Need help importing to this new platform. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ben, I don’t think we have an importer here that will handle a tar, but we do have other import tools. Is the old site still live?

Also, does the old site have plugins and outside themes that need to be imported, or will you just be importing the content?

Hi Supernovia,

Thanks for the response! Sadly, the site is no longer live and we were given a .tar backup which probably includes a little bit of everything. We only care about the content such as Bio, photos, pages, and texts within each page (text and photos basically)

Does it also include .sql database files?

The only file in there that’s a WordPress file or even looks like WordPress’s structure is wp-db.php, but that’s it.

Are you absolutely sure this was a WordPress site? How was the backup exported?

Unfortunately Not 100% sure if the site was running on WP. I wish I knew how it was exported. They only provided this “Backup” and we will never be able to communicate with them any longer :(

Okay, that is for a WordPress site. Can you tell me the file size of the rocha_db.sql file? I’m thinking that might be the database file staff-blorbo asked about above.

I think that’s the file.

Please upload it for me at https://www.dropbox.com/request/HqT0F3HMIk7fu3yKvwq4 and I can check if it’s possible to convert it to a XML export file for you, but I can’t make any promises that it will work.

Right, I was able to import that database into a new WordPress installation. I see 11 pages and 6 posts on that site. Does that sound right to you? Or should there be more content on the site?
