importing textfiles

  • Unknown's avatar

importing textfiles gives me problems as I dont succeed to make the textfile appear as I typed it on my computer, say with Pages. An edited textfile of 15000 words, exported in doc, appears as a solid block of text in the page or message space and is impossible to re-edit as the wordprocessor of WP does also funny things. Well, nm.I hope my problem is clear.
    Thanks in advance,
    Louis

Are you importing this file through Tools > Import? Or are you copying and pasting it into the post editor?

Thank you for your reaction. As I am a newbie I do a lot of trial and error,
so I guess I am copying-pasting directly from my desktop into the post editor. Where do I find this Tools>import? Worth a try as I gather you grasp my problem.

    Thanks,

    Louis

    Hi Louis,

I don’t think Tools > Import will do what you want, which is why I was asking. :)

As for copying and pasting into our editor, many text editors add a lot of extraneous code. Because of this, it’s not guaranteed to appear the same when you copy the contents from Microsoft Word and paste it into WordPress.com editor.

One way you can copy and paste text from text editors is using the Paste as Text function:

    Microsoft Word

Here are some other tips to avoid messy formatting when copying and pasting:

More details can be found here, including how to paste clean text from Word:

    Microsoft Word

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have other questions!
