importing TO a self-hosted site
-
Hello!
I am moving my blog from wordpress.com to a self-hosted site. I have exported my XML from coffeeismykryptonite.wordpress.com. When I go to Import it on my self-hosted site, I run the wordpress importer, select my file, and click upload and import. Then it just sits on the page. The title, ‘Import WordPress’ is at the top, with the menu system on the left, but the page itself is blank. Nothing is happening. I get no option for author selection, etc. I get no messages about pop-up blockers (I thought this might be it, but clearly not). I get nothing. It’s not a very big blog that I’m importing, so I don’t know why it would take this long.
Did I do something wrong? Did I completely miss something?
Thanks for your help.

Hi there,
I’m afraid we’re not really able to help with this. You can try re-installing the WordPress importer on that site, or it could be that you don’t have enough memory on your server and that’s causing the importer to stall.
Please try asking in the forums for the open source WordPress software instead. The users there will be more familiar with reasons why the importer on that version of WordPress might fail, and will be better able to advise you on how to fix it.

Note that if you don’t have an account on WordPress.org yet, you’ll need to create one before you can post in those forums. Neither your WordPress.com nor your site’s admin account credentials will work for logging in there.
