importing .xml file
-
I imported an .xml file. It says successfully uploaded. It didn’t do anything else. I don’t know what to do. It was exported from a WordPress site and the file is in my computer.

Hi there,
What’s the site you imported the XML file so I can have a look and further assist you?
-
I exported it from my website hosted by siteground. I no longer have hosting with them or anyone. The .xml file was in my computer. There’s nothing else to see because it doesn’t show up anymore since I did not renew hosting.
I think it is just one of my posts that I had saved. I don’t know. This stuff is way over my head.
I still own the domain name but I don’t think that will help.

I started a wp.com site
ancestorjournal.wordpress.com
I’m trying to just make something new until I can recreate the old one.
I was able to import one post from the wp.org site that I had. I guess I downloaded that file correctly. I don’t think the rest of my site was saved.
My photos are missing. I think I had a plug-in Smart Frame or something like that. I know that the theme I used is not an option on wp.com and I can’t remember the name of it.
I’m trying to remember log in info for wp.org to find out what I had.
It’s very confusing to me.

Images will only carry over during the import if the original site is online. They are not included in the export file, but rather simply referenced and the importer downloads them from the source.
How big is the export file?
-
I think the file imported and it was only one post sans photos. I can add those back.
I don’t know how I got it to import but I think I got in to another page and dragged it.
It doesn’t look like I was able to download any other files except the one post. I can add the images I think.

You will need a paid Business or eCommerce plan to use plugins here: https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/adding-plugins/
