Importing XML file and got a popup b

Have anyone run into this problem?:
I was importing content from blogger with an XML file, an action I have done for years, and ran into trouble today while importing. I got an error message that says ‘You have used your space quota. Please delete files before uploading. Back
Make sure you are using a valid WordPress export file in XML or ZIP format’
I don’t think I have used up my space quota, but I don’t even know where to check that. Have I reached 3gb already?
    Please help!
    Thanks so much!

  • Hi there!

It looks like you have indeed run out of storage space on dittofunky.wordpress.com. You can see it in My Sites>Site>Media:

You can either delete some old images or upgrade to get more storage. Bear in mind that, whatever you delete from the media library, will also disappear from any post or page where it was added.

Thank you so much staff-mckluskey for taking the time to answer my question and quickly too! Wow, I see the same images copied multiple times in the media section. I wonder if that is on blogger end. Thanks again!

  • @dittofunky if that is happening, I’d recommend looking for pages or posts that contain that image. Then you can remove all copies except the one that is actually in use.

Or, if you’ve got the same image in several pages and posts, you can edit those and opt to use the one image from your library.

    Hoping that helps!

Thanks so much @supernovia! I have looked into blogger and found a few repeat images but not to the extent as wordpress. My guess is that every time I import the xml from blogger to wordpress, it is duplicating the entire blog.

  • That may be the case if you are importing repeatedly. I know importing from WordPress to WordPress will not duplicate posts, but I can’t say so much for the Blogger import. Perhaps there’s a better way to accomplish what you’re after?

Also it looks like you have copies of several posts, too. Is that intentional?

@supernovia – The duplicate posts are definitely not intentional. I wonder if I can restart my wordpress blog site by deleting the entire blog and starting over? I think I might have to do the extra step of deleting old media and old posts before importing the XML.

  • @dittofunky instead of deleting, would you like us to empty it for you? Please note this cannot be undone. Anything not in the Blogger XML file will be lost, so please confirm.

And this is for dittofunky.wordpress.com, correct?

@supernovia- Thanks so much for the offer! I have been bulk deleting all my posts after manually deleting the media (was there a better way to have done this, it took me hours to delete all my media and get it down to mb rather than gb!)
In the future, what would be the best way to proceed? I am thinking I might have to skip importing the xml from blogger and just manually create the posts on wordpress while creating on blogger…

  • @dittofunky just to confirm, would you like us to empty it for you? That’s quite a lot of stuff to remove manually.

And yes I’d probably just go ahead and copy each post from blogger if it’s your intent to keep the two sites mirrored.

Hi @supernovia, I was able to delete everything and start all over. I imported a new XML from blogger and even chosen a new design theme. So far now, all is good. I did check my media page again and it looks like some of the images duplicated. I might have to go back and delete the duplicated images but I am happy to get a fresh start on the blog now I know where things are and maybe how to move forward. Thanks again!
