Incorrect stats?
-
I’ve been testing the number of clicks on my media files as I create quite a few graphics for my blog and it’s informative for me to know if people are clicking through onto these. Yet, when I tested these with a friend accessing the blog and clicking on one specific media file via a hyperlink 50 times (exactly), the stats on that day only showed 4 clicks for that media file.
Is there a known problem here or something that could help explain it?

Hi there,
What is counted as a view and visit can be found here:
https://wordpress.com/support/stats/#views-and-visitors
- A view is counted when a visitor loads or reloads a page.
- A visitor is counted when we see a user or browser for the first time in a given period (day, week, month).
Please take a look at the support page and let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

Hi Darnel, thank you for your reply but that does not answer my question. I’m not asking about views/visitors but about media clicks.
Kind regards

Clicks
This stat counts the number of times your readers have clicked on external links that appear on your site. These may be (but are not limited to):
Links you add to your post and page content.
Links placed in comments by your readers.
Links that appear in your blogroll.
Links attached to the names of users who comment on your site.
Links to media files.
Links to images in a gallery. If I take this from the page that you link to, then I should surely have had 50 click counts on the media that he clicked on 50 times, not 4. Or does it only count clicks from unique users, so in this case he would have yielded 1 click out of the 4?

Hi there,
Thanks for the clarification. The 50 clicks should’ve been counted as total and not unique clicks, so you should have closer to 50 than 4. I tested clicks on my end to verify everything is working properly and I was able to get the total clicks to reflect the number of times I clicked on a link.
What is the URL of the media file that was clicked on? I’d be happy to take a look at this end.
Thanks,

Above is the media file. I have a number of media files like this which I would have anticipated receiving clicks from the same article/blog post (https://afmoldtimer.home.blog/2020/08/25/ac-milan-tactical-set-up-2021-22/) so I was surprised (and disappointed if I’m honest) that they didn’t receive the clicks that I had anticipated/expected (and in some cases registered no clicks) despite a record number of views/visitors to my blog on the same day.
Thank you for your help. -
That is odd. We’ll check in with our stats team to see if they can spot the issue. It might be a bit since we’re heading into a weekend, but we’ll update you when we hear back.

We can definitely verify that your clicks are being tracked properly.
Perhaps folks are using a ad/tracker blocker which is affecting our stats ability to track and record.
