  Hi, what I’d really like would be for individual visitors to my site to be able to request a username and password to see restricted content. I am aware that you can password protect pages but it would be great if a more sophisticated system were introduced. If you do implement it, please have the option of people needing admin approval!

  I think this would be a good addition as this would allow wordpress users to make more impressive sites, have greater control over who can see what and, for people like me using wordpress to host a website for a small business, allow only certain clients / customers to see certain information.

  Thanks for posting this idea. I have been here for 9 years and I suggest you do not hold your breath waiting for what you suggest to take place. I suggest you hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting and then go to http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network because, in essence, what you are asking is for Staff to provide features required to become a miniature version of WordPress.Com and that is not going to happen.
