Inquiry about wordpress sub domain.
-
Hi there, I already made a website using wordpress which I linked to a domain that was provided to me by my Internet service provider.
I would like to make another website using the .WordPress sub domain.
My question is, can I make a website with the .wordpress sub domain and if my client likes it, then buy a domain for them after they approved of the website?
If they decide to proceed is it possible to migrate that data from the .wordpress site to eg. http://www.client.com after purchasing a domain for them. I will still use wordpress as a standard to maintain the website.
I hope this makes sense. Thank you!

Hi there,

No problem. You can start a new site under your account here at any time, there is no limit to how many sites you have under your current login: https://wordpress.com/start/
My question is, can I make a website with the .wordpress sub domain and if my client likes it, then buy a domain for them after they approved of the website?
Yes, the option to set a custom address (instead of the WordPress.com address we assign) you will want to upgrade to any of the plans listed here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
All our plans include “domain mapping” to allow you to connect a domain you have through another provider. You also have the option to transfer the domain to WordPress.com for free, and consolidate your billing here.
If they decide to proceed is it possible to migrate that data from the .wordpress site to eg. http://www.client.com after purchasing a domain for them. I will still use wordpress as a standard to maintain the website.
If they have an existing self-hosted WordPress site on another provider, that data (pages, blog posts, uploaded media) can be transferred to WordPress.com by following the steps here: https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
