Inserting a header image

  I am trying to develop my new website and insert my logo into the header space. I have downsized it to less than their maximum size of 960×260 pixels, and yet regardless of the size, it still tries to crop my image in exactly the same place (even when it is twice the maximum size or less than). Any advice would be most welcome as I have spent over 3 hours trying to work this out!
