Instagram URL Change – Embed Links Broken

  Hi! Instagram made a change to its URL structure recently which broke the auto-embedding of posts in WordPress. They changed the URLs for links from this format:

  A post shared by Boris (@russian_boris)

  to this format:

  View this post on Instagram

  A post shared by Boris (@russian_boris)

  As a result, WordPress just prints the link URL as opposed to embedding the image.

  Could you please update WordPress for this change?

  Hi there,

  Your site is not using WordPress.com, but the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org. We’re not able to help here with enhancements or bug fixes on the core WordPress software.

  Please post at https://wordpress.org/support/ instead.

  That said, I don’t think this is a change. If I go to your Instagram profile and click on that image, I get the https://www.instagram.com/p/BqVLG6IgTKO/ link for the image. I’m not even able to find how you got the russian_boris version of that link – nothing I do on Instagram gives me that link, so I suspect it’s something you can only get to from within your own profile. It’s not a public link that’s discoverable to visitors to your site.
