Integrating SiteGround + A domain name purchased from namecheap + WordPress

    Hey guys, I have purchased a domain from namecheap and then in order to host my wordpress site I was encouraged to purchase site ground for their fast loading times and service but now as I try and build a website with a paid theme on wordpress, it keeps asking to pay for a wordpress plan? I’m so confused. The paid freelancer plan still have .wordpress.com in it. I thought after purchasing a plan, your domain name will be the one you purchased

    Hi there,

    There are two flavours of WordPress.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Your site, http://uvsucommunity.wordpress.com/ is hosted with us on WordPress.com. If you want to use this site with your NameCheap domain, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid WordPress.com plan, and then you can connect the domain here using our domain mapping upgrade:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    You can buy any premium theme listed at https://wordpress.com/themes/ for that site, or if you upgrade to the premium plan or higher, you can use any premium theme without paying extra.

    We don’t have anything called a “paid freelancer plan” on WordPress.com. Our only plans, as listed at https://wordpress.com/pricing/, are Personal, Premium, Business and eCommerce, and your site at http://uvsucommunity.wordpress.com/ is currently on our free plan.

    What you bought from SiteGround is a hosting plan for the open source WordPress software made by the community on WordPress.org. That site has nothing to do with your WordPress.com account, and is hosted on SiteGround’s servers, not ours.

    If you want to connect your NameCheap domain to that site, you’ll need to contact SiteGround support instead for help. Support for the WordPress software you’ll be using there is provided by the community who makes that software, over at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

    For help with the paid theme you bought, you can contact support at the site where you bought the theme directly.
