Intrusive ads
-
Hi. My site has been going since 2014, but since I linked to it from a Facebook site yesterday, it has click-bait ads right through the text of posts on the site. I don’t have enough knowledge to know if this is WordPress planting the ads, or some third-party.
I would be happy to get an upgrade to the paid-for (Personal) version, but when I try to do that, WordPress seems to insist I change the URL of my site, which I’m loath to do, as, surely, that would mean external links would then no longer connect to my site.
Can you help? The site I need help with is staffshistoricchurches.wordpress.com.

Hi there!
WordPress.com free sites may display ads, so they can continue being free :). But we will never display popup ads, for example. So next time you see those ads, grab a screenshot, add it to your media library and let us know. We’ll have a look and confirm if those are coming from us or not.
On the other hand, if you would like to upgrade to a paid plan, you’ll see prompts to choose a custom domain, which is included in the plan price during the first year. You do not have to register a custom domain, though. Instead, you can just choose your existent, free subdomain and proceed to checkout.
