IP Addresses
-
Hi there,
I’m using another website to URL/web-forward to my two wordpress.com sites, however, recently they made a change that requires me to enter an IP address instead of URL to forward to. For my two sites, what would be the IP address, and would it remain the same or change over time?
Cheers!

Hi there,
It sounds like you are looking to set up custom DNS:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/custom-dns/Since you have a domain registered through another provider and want to point it to your WordPress.com site via a Domain Mapping upgrade:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/It is strongly recommended that you use name servers to map your domain name to WordPress.com
Hope this helps, otherwise, let us know!

Heya! Super thanks for your help. I’m not that knowledgeable when it comes to network and IP stuff, but your links along with this:
https://www.siteground.com/kb/dns_records_ns_a_mx_cname_spf_explained/
….helped me figure it out and select CNAME from domain provider console. Just make an update there, hoping it will take effect in the next 6-12 hours and we shall see if that works.
Thanks again!

Hi there,
What exactly are you trying to do? If you simply want traffic from that domain to be redirected to your free WordPress.com site, the correct way to do that is by setting up a 301 redirect at your domain provider. While using DNS can work, it is not the best way to do this.
If you want your WordPress.com site to actually appear at your domain, that will require the domain mapping upgrade included in our paid plans.
