    Hi there!

Our IP addresses change from time to time, so mapping your domain with IP addresses instead of name servers will mean that your site will break in the future. The best way to map your domain is by changing your name servers. Any other DNS settings you have, like email hosting or other subdomains will be transferred over to our system when you update the name servers.

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

If there’s a particular reason that your registrar doesn’t want to change your name servers, let me know and I’ll see what we can do.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
Yes, that makes sense, but the thing is that they told me that they need the ips as well as the name servers, that it’s imperative to know them in order to change the dns. That’s the only reason to ask them from you cause I thought the name servers were enough, but it seems it’s not.
    Thanks again

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s very interesting, because it’s simply not true. Once they change the name servers, any IP addresses they have setup will be changed by our system. They should not need the IP addresses in addition to the name servers.

I’m sorry for making you run around, but could you contact them again and ask them to go ahead and change your name servers without the IP addresses?

If they say that they can’t, please copy and paste their response here so I can see what they’re trying to have you do.

  • Unknown's avatar

I will do it that way. Let’s see what happens.

    Thanks a lot

Here is the reply from my domain registrar has sent me. It’s in another language (Spanish) so I tried to translate as best as possible. Excuse me for any mistake. I hope you can understand it

We want to clarify that what you must ask from your current hosting provider is the Ip type A record, so you can still use the email accounts you have included in your domain.

I mean, you can directly place the wordpress dns, or change the A record and maintain our dns.

In the case of changing the dns by the WordPress ones, the email accounts will stop working. If you still want to change the dns, our form will ask you always for the IP associated with the dns, it’s for safety reasons only, we can make a query for the associated IP published but it may be out of date and then to change the dns wouldn’t be completed .

This is the current information we have:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    192.0.80.93
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    69.174.248.148
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
    207.198.112.47

Perfect! Thanks so much for doing that!

Your email account settings will transfer over when you change your name servers. There will likely be a short blip in service while the DNS settings propagate, but our system will automatically transfer the records related to your email when you set up the name servers.

Just to clarify, you pay for email hosting through your domain provider? Or are you using an email forwarding service through your domain provider?

And the IP addresses associated with our name servers are all correct. So they can go ahead and make those changes with no problems!

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, I pay for email hosting through them.

I just did the change of the name servers and when I click on my domain I can see now the wordpress blog but with lots of publicity which I didn’t see before. Anyway, is there anything more I have to do? Because in the blog admin panel there is an advice telling me to activate the domain and I can see things I just don’t understand.

Thanks for your help I’m completely lost in this.

  • Unknown's avatar

It looks like everything is working correctly! However, it looks like your email settings aren’t quite right. Who is your email provider?

    but with lots of publicity

Can you take a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Just upload it to your Media Library.

in the blog admin panel there is an advice telling me to activate the domain

You’re seeing this in your dashboard here at WordPress.com?

    https://keanumania.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

We don’t have an ‘activation’ step for setting up your domain. Are you seeing this in the admin panel of your account with your registrar and email provider? Can you tell me who your email provider is? They may require a verification in order to set up your email with different name servers.

Can you take a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Just upload it to your Media Library.

Sorry, sorry. I was wrong. No, the publicity thing is my fault. It seems a virus has enter my pc and I see ads whenever I go.

Concerning to the advice telling me to activate the domain, I can’t see it now, so I guess it was there only while my domain has the old name servers. Sorry, again.

And yes, my email is not working properly. But don’t worry, I’ll try to fix it with my email provider (it’s nominalia.com). If I can’t I will tell you. Thanks a lot for your help again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Great. Let me know if I can help with that!

You should be able to just ask them for the relevant CNAME and MX records. If you have trouble setting those up in our system, just let me know what the records should be and I can set them up for you. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you very much, but the email accounts just don’t work. I asked them and they told me that in the very moment I did the DNS change my email became inoperative. They insisted on the DNS type A record to make them work. So, here we go again.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

I’m sorry, that’s really frustrating that they only allow you to use their email hosting if you have their name servers. Most email providers do not work like that.

Here are the current IP addresses:

    192.0.81.250
    66.155.11.238
    66.155.9.238
    76.74.254.123
    192.0.80.250
    76.74.254.120

Please be sure to use at least two IP addresses when mapping the domain. These addresses will likely change in the future. If your domain stops working, you can reach out any time, and we’ll give you the new IP addresses.

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry again. They keep telling me that there is no type A DNS in those you gave me and that they are the ones I have already in my domain info. So… I just don’t know what to do. I’m in the middle of something I don’t understand. They say that the CNAME and MX records wouldn’t fix the problem with the email. What should I do?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m sorry that this is so frustrating. I’m honestly just as confused as you are at this point.

Those IP addresses are already in your domain info because your name servers are set to WordPress.com. They wanted to change the name servers back in order to fix your email addresses, which will cause those records to no longer be in your DNS settings and they’ll need to enter at least two of them as A records in order for your domain to point to us.

I really want to avoid making you run back and forth continually, but I’m very confused by what your email host is telling you. If I may, were you by any chance using an email forwarding setup? Where you created an email address like info@ … and then the emails sent there arrived in the inbox of another email address you use, like a gmail address?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. At least you understand the situation.
No, I’m not using any email forwarding setup. I never was. I always used a pop3 account ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). But that can be made? I mean, can I use one of the accounts I have set up with my registrar in that way? Could I configure, for instance, the (email visible only to moderators and staff) account in a way that I could get the emails sent in a gmail account?

  • Unknown's avatar

Definitely! We actually offer email forwarding for up to five addresses with your domain mapping upgrade.

It looks like your name servers are still pointed at WordPress.com, so to set this up just head over to Store > My Domains and select Edit Domain. Select the “Email” tab.

Now you can create an email address. For instance if you want info-at-keanumania.com, insert “info” into the first box. Then in the “Existing Address” box, insert your full Gmail address and the click Add New Email Forward.

You’ll get an email to your Gmail account with a verification link in it. Just click that link and your email will be all set!

If you’re doing it this way, you don’t need email hosting through your other service. It sounds like your service is a little different than other ones, so maybe you have to pay for email hosting if you pay for a domain, but if its possible to do, you can go ahead and cancel your email hosting package. Just make sure that they keep your domain itself active!

Let me know if you have any questions about that!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thank you so much!!
I just did it and it works like a charm! Finally I can get my email. Thanks a lot for your help. And sorry for the inconveniences, this was driving me crazy.

  • Unknown's avatar

Not an inconvenience at all! I’m so glad its all working for you now!

Let me know if I can help you with anything else. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thank you very much.
    I will, don’t worry ; )
